Fashion

Today, Paris Fashion Week is a household term. But how did France become the hub for all things fashion? It all traces back to the opulent, lavish lifestyle of King Louis XIV. He spent huge amounts of money to be decked out by the finest fashion designers. French fashion designer Paul Poiret entered the fashion scene in France in the early 20th century. He is the founder and originator of a fashion term/genre called "haute couture". As mentioned before, corsets are no longer in style, according to Poiret, as he designed billowing and flowing garments such as kimonos, harem pants, and sultana skirts. Parisian fashion through the ages still inspires modern style to this day, with successful Parisian designers such as Dior, that became popular in the 1950s, living on and producing many lines of gorgeous garments.
