Textile design is the art of applying design and aesthetic concepts to fabrics. Two common industries that use textile design are apparel design and home furnishing design. Choices made during the design process depend on the final product to be produced; for example, an apparel designer may work with many textiles to make clothing, whereas a home furnishing designer may focus on one kind of fabric for projects like draperies and pillows. To create a successful design, designers must be familiar with textile properties, such as durability, elasticity, and water resistance.
