Style or the way of fashion

Style is a particular way of doing something and when it comes to fashion it means how an individual is reflecting themselves in front of others. Style in fashion refers to a particular look or mode of dress that is unique to an individual or cultural group. Style encompasses a wide range of elements including clothing, accessories, hair, makeup, and body language. It is a reflection of one’s personality, mood, and cultural influences. It is the manner of creating the elements of fashion. For example, if one is wearing a saree with a high-neck blouse it is her style, but when other people admit it and take it as a style it becomes the fashion. So, style begets fashion and is taken as a unique manner of fashion.

Fashion for the earth

Fast fashion has completely revolutionized the apparel industry, but not for the better. Behind every piece of clothing in a store, there is an industry stripping the Earth of its limited resources and exploiting the labor force that works in its garment factories. Tremendous waste characterizes this industry as it depletes healthy soil, contaminates fresh water sources, pollutes the air we breathe, defiles our oceans, destroys forests and damages eco-systems and the health of their biodiversity.

Dressing fashion in summer

Dressing for Summer With the summer heat looming large, you want to call for cooler clothing. Summer clothes and summer wear is great for all kinds of lifestyles; from shoes to sunglasses and shorts, one cannot but love spring and summer despite the heat. Proper summer clothing and good summer styles are essential whether you are dressing for a night out, a wedding or simply a girl's night out. There is no specific look for summer; in fact it can be described as having a certain bohemian vibe to it. Dressing for summer is all about an effortless and a carefree look with a combination of style and comfort.

Pair a loose and simple solid colored dress with a wide leather belt slung around the hips or a highlight a pair of jeans with a short dress on top. The key is in mixing different pieces together to create a look that is original. Accentuate a breezy floral dress with a leather jacket when it's colder outside, wrap a printed silk scarf around your hips to create a one of a kind belt or layer or sport different colored shirts atop a pair of worn-in jeans. Spaghetti strap and noodle strap dresses and tops are sexy cool and comfortable.

The rich history of fashion in india

It is said history repeats itself and it is no different for fashion! Indian fashion is as ancient as the human civilization with a mix of regional, cultural and historical influences. The fashion in India or anywhere else in the world always repeats itself in a decade or two bringing neoteric twists to the current fashion. Our generation is influenced by the world of fashion so much so that it has become as essential as food and water. And mind it, it is not just wearing clothes we are talking about but the ever evolving and changing fashion trends which we love to incorporate into our wardrobes. What all led to this? What are major influences? How does current fashion differ from ancient Indian fashion? What is the history of fashion in India? It is imperative we know what we wear a little more in detail!

Fashion journalist

journalism can be a fast-paced and prestigious career, but when you picture it, envision a little glamor and much hard work. A typical day may include writing or editing articles or stories; dealing with photographers, public relations specialists, and designers; and researching the next big designer, retailer, or fashion trend.

A journalist needs the skills to write and report for various media, including news publications, magazines, television, blogs, and websites. The top journalists build a network of fashion who’s who to secure the best, most exclusive interviews. Fashion journalism often focuses on design trends, beauty products, and marketing strategies, written to appeal to consumers.

Journalists often begin a career path as an assistant to a journalist, editors, or reporter and work their way to becoming an actual journalist or reporter; they may then become editors, analysts, or professors.

Classification of fashion

Fashion Essay

Fashion is what is in fashion, it refers specifically to clothing, hairstyles, shoes and various accessories.

Nowadays people are very demanding when it comes to their lifestyle and therefore they follow fashion trends in a religious way.

All over the world there are many different kinds of fashion trends at any given time.

India is a culturally diverse country and therefore different fashion trends are observed in different parts of the country.

Fashion industry A resource guide

This guide represents a selection of the many resources in the Library of Congress that may be useful for the study of the business aspects of fashion (or FTAR for fiber, textile, apparel, and retail). It includes all aspects of fashion - clothes, shoes, bags, accessories. It also includes suggested subject headings which interested researchers may select to link directly to our online catalog in order to search for additional materials on this topic.

Also, since keeping up with the fast pace of change is an ongoing process in the "here today, gone tomorrow" fashion industry, we have have included a number of related external resources. Using traditional trade literature and web portals, as well as reports from research groups is essential as a way to find the more general articles and reports but it may be even more important to find reports and articles that look at a particular segment, niche market, situation, or trend so we have included a few links to various web sites that may also be of interest.

African fashion history and future

Soon, Africans began using raffia to sew separate pieces of bark cloth together. In time, grass skirts were the rage. Likewise, they used accessories to adorn the uncovered parts of the body. This consisted of more intricate jewellery and headgear fashioned from seashells, bones, ostrich eggshell pieces and feathers. Fur, skins, bone, animal tails and hair, raffia, wood, grass, bells and pressed metal all contributed to a rich and embellished costume, used especially for ceremonial purposes.

Colours and patterns, created in printed and dyed cloth; woven fabric strips; and beaded attire distinguished one ethnic group from another. Tribes prided themselves on the quality of their hand-made cloth. They used techniques handed down generation by generation for centuries.

Importance of fashion

Fashion design is generally considered to have started in the 19th century with Charles Frederick Worth who was the first designer to have his label sewn into the garments that he created. Before the former draper set up his maison couture (fashion house) in Paris, clothing design and creation was handled by largely anonymous seamstresses, and high fashion descended from that worn at royal courts. Worth’s success was such that he was able to dictate to his customers what they should wear, instead of following their lead as earlier dressmakers had done. The term couturier was in fact first created in order to describe him. While all articles of clothing from any time period are studied by academics as costume design, only clothing created after 1858 are considered as fashion design.

It was during this period that many design houses began to hire artists to sketch or paint designs for garments. The images were shown to clients, which was much cheaper than producing an actual sample garment in the workroom. If the client liked their design, they ordered it and the resulting garment made money for the house. Thus, the tradition of designers sketching out garment designs instead of presenting completed garments on models to customers began as an economy.

Mordan fashion these days

Modern clothing today is not just dresses, pants, or jackets with layers needed to hide from the cold and prying eyes. Instead, clothing is primarily a style and a reflection of the inner world. In addition to warmth and comfort, clothing is a symbol of your personality and an open message to the surrounding humanity.

For the younger generation, clothing is also a constant source of aesthetic pleasure and enjoyment, a great attitude, and a way to increase self-esteem. Look below for fashion trends for 2024.

The age of fashion

Fashion historians often credit the development of the doublet as the event which gave birth, around 1350, to an "age of fashion." The first appearance of this short jacket, which took its name from the padded garment used as soft body armor under metal armor, occurred at a time when the military importance of the armored knight on a horse was declining, being superseded in actual fighting by the efficient and deadly long- and cross-bowmen. In the latter half of the fourteenth and throughout the fifteenth centuries, the knight continued to be designated as a military leader, even as he became less functionally important as provider and warrior. Simultaneously, his presence in the court took on greater significance, and the knight sought to make a more spectacular impression through dress. At this time, the long, full robe employing rich folds of material, now considered appropriate to the upper civic elite class of lawyers, physicians, and merchants, as well as for male members of the aristocracy, was dramatically replaced by a new silhouette. If the previous generations had preferred to hide the body in sedate movement-encumbering robes that denied physicality, the styles of the 1350s—when the aristocrat's connection to combat was becoming more symbolic than real—emphasized male freedom of movement and sexuality in an hourglass figure. Especially in the 1500s, such new fashions were specifically associated with the courtier class of persons who maintained themselves by various forms of royal and ducal appointments and "preferments." Two features of this costume are notable: the pourpoint, or short doublet showing the legs and buttocks, and the long pointed shoes called poulaines supposedly originating in Crakow, Poland. These exaggerated styles, as well as a trend towards tall headdresses that seemed to mimic the perpendicularity of Gothic architecture, were the subject of numerous satires against excesses in court dress.

Social medias influence on fashion

The rise of social media has democratised fashion in unprecedented ways. Enthusiasts worldwide are now active participants, influencing and being influenced by the latest trends. Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok have become virtual runways, allowing individuals to showcase unique styles and inspire others. Fashion influencers and bloggers have gained immense power, often setting trends and guiding their followers’ fashion choices.

Social media has also enabled brands to connect directly with their consumers, gaining instant feedback and building stronger relationships. This direct interaction has made the fashion industry more transparent and accessible. Brands can now launch new collections, host virtual fashion shows, and engage with their audience in real-time, making fashion more interactive and engaging than ever before.

High fashion in french

High fashion is the style of a small group of men and women with a certain taste and authority in the fashion world. People of wealth and position, buyers for major department stores, editors and writers for fashion magazines are all part of Haute Couture ("High Fashion" in French). Some of these expensive and often artistic fashions may triumph and become the fashion for the larger majority. Most stay on the runway.

Popular fashions are close to impossible to trace. No one can tell how the short skirts and boots worn by teenagers in England in 1960 made it to the runways of Paris, or how blue jeans became so popular in the U.S., or how hip-hop made it from the streets of the Bronx to the Haute Couture fashion shows of London and Milan.

It's easy to see what's popular by watching sit-coms on television: the bare mid-riffs and athletic clothes of 90210, the baggy pants of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. But the direction of fashion relies on "plugged-in" individuals to react to events, and trends in music, art and books.

"In the perspective of costume history, it is plain that the dress of any given period is exactly suited to the actual climate of the time." according to James Laver, a noted English costume historian. How did bell-bottom jeans fade into the designer jeans and boots look of the 1980s into the baggy look of the 1990s? Nobody really knows

Fashion forecasting

Fashion forecasting is the prediction of mood, behavior and buying habits of the consumer that focuses on upcoming trends. It is very important part of fashion scene because when a new garment is designed by a designer and worn, it will not create fashion by itself. It needs to spread fashion with different media. Fashion forecasting is commonly done by many communicating media, such as, fashion shows, cinema, newspapers, press, fashion magazines and window display.

History of western fashion

The easiest form of Western fashion was called the toga, a long piece of fabric draped over the shoulders and around the body. Togas were primarily worn by the ancient Greeks and Romans. Although it evolved from a simple form of clothing for work, the Greek and Roman toga was a formal piece used for specific ceremonious events. The toga thus came to represent one's civil hierarchy. Togas were typically white since dyed fabrics were costly and only those who could afford them could wear dyed fabric. Purple fabrics would be worn by the emperor since purple was an expensive dye and signified nobility. Eventually, the toga was only worn by men and prostitutes before the lower and middle classes phased it out. Women adapted the toga into stolas, a type of toga that involved more dramatic draping. The toga style of draping is still used today.

Eco- fashion

The rise of fast fashion has started a global conversation about sustainability, ethics, and the true cost of trends. Eco fashion refers to affordable, stylish clothing that integrates ecological/ environmental concerns –  from sourcing the materials to the production, everything is green-inspired; It is basically, fashion that is made responsibly

Envoirmenatl fashion

Fast fashion comes at an astonishing environmental and social cost. While the impacts of the fashion industry in terms of pollution, water use, carbon emissions, human rights, and gender inequality are increasing, the need for a shift to sustainable fashion is evident. Organizations in Geneva and beyond are joining efforts to shift the fashion economy and foster international cooperation on the issue.

Fashion article analytic

Many of us think that fashion applies just the clothes we wear, but in actual fact it can be applied to almost anything we do. Fashionis used to describe a means of expression. The terms "fashionable" and"unfashionable" are used to describe something that does or does not tally with the current popular mode of expression. Fashions can apply to many fields of human activity and thinking, including those such as architecture, music, speech, pastimes, etiquette, politics, and technology, to name but afew.

The broad use of the term fashion when applied to clothes was used in the pastas a means of people showing solidarity with other people by their choice of clothes. However, in more realistic terms, today Modern Westerners have a wide choice of clothes available to them, and wearing what is currently in fashion is unlikely to be exactly the same as someone else. Nowadays what a person wears is more likely to be a reflection of their personal tastes and character, than wanting to imitate somebody else. However, when celebrities or people in the public eye start to wear new or different clothes, people tend to copy them and a new fashion develops, therefore the original term may still apply today.

Fashion style & popular culture

Fashion, Style & Popular Culture is a peer-reviewed journal specifically dedicated to the area of fashion scholarship and its interfacings with popular culture. It was established to provide an interdisciplinary environment for fashion academics and practitioners to publish innovative scholarship in all aspects of fashion and popular culture relating to design, textiles, production, promotion, consumption and appearance-related products and services. Articles related to history, manufacturing, aesthetics, sourcing, marketing, branding, merchandising, retailing, technology, psychological/sociological aspects of dress, style, body image, and cultural identities, as well as purchasing, shopping, and the ways and means consumers construct identity as associated to Fashion, Style & Popular Culture are welcomed. The journal offers a broad range of written and visual scholarship and includes works done through various methods of research. We welcome conceptual, theoretical and translational applied research in the areas of fashion, style and popular culture. This journal hopes to stimulate new discussions in the fashion disciplines and to push the envelope of scholarship by welcoming new and established scholars to submit their works.

Overview fashion

Fashion, as the term is used in this chapter, refers to a dominant mode in dress in a particular place or time, usually a mode that is established by a perceived social elite or by notable persons. Fashion functions as a social phenomenon, setting standards of dress that periodically change when what once was new and desirable becomes ordinary and then must be supplanted by yet another innovation. Moreover, fashion as a social force possesses its own natural laws. For example, it appears that once innovative fashions move too far from what society perceives as the norm, it rejects these excesses, and a pendulum swing occurs with a return to an older or plainer style. Fashionable clothing must convey the impression of distinction, excellence, originality, and character expressed artistically. And, of course, fashion responds to the availability of new materials, dye stuffs, and technologies. The relative importance of each of these factors, although generally present in some combination, will vary at any given time. Therefore, a fashion system is characterized by constant change. Historians of costume agree that in Europe fashion as a social concept—that is, an ongoing awareness of self-consciously changing styles—began in the . By the middle of the fourteenth century, this system was well enough established to be the subject of ongoing commentary and concern, since the pressure always to be purchasing new and expensive clothing, with its emphasis on the human body, has moral implications. But even before fashion became a major force in society, elements of a fashion system were present in European courts, making it possible to trace the development of fashion as early as the age of Charlemagne in the eighth century.

Fashion sustainability

Sustainable fashion is a way in which brands create clothing that not only reduces the impact on the environment but is also mindful of the people who work to produce the garments.

Put simply, it is fashion that is ethically made and environmentally friendly.

All this sounds simple, however, being sustainable means more overheads, which in turn reduces profit margins.

For the industry to become sustainable as a whole, consumers must be willing to pay more to help make the change, or at the very least, stop buying from brands that have no regard for the environment.

Fashion & style differences

Fashion and style overlap in the street style that photographers capture outside of fashion shows. The subjects photographed are typically models, stylists, and fashion editors wearing the clothes of the designers whose shows they are attending, but they've taken the clothes and styled them to work for real life, effectively merging fashion with style.

Parisian fashion

During the mid-1800s, Paris started haute couture, a new trend in fashion that elevated mere dressmaking to the luxurious status of high-quality, customized fashion. During this time, individual designers made their mark in the fashion industry with their one-of-a-kind creations that wore the designer's name on the label.

Many haute couture dresses had small trains, and were decorated with many buttons, ruffles, and ribbons. Although the fashion started in Paris, it moved over to other countries as well, especially the United States, and the concept and practice carries on to this day.

Fashion & identity

In the world of fashion, the word "acceptability" is prevalent. One main reason for this is the mass production of fashion labels that target mass sales.  involved in such marketing are enforcing a fashion sense on the unsuspecting public. Design labels like Zara, H&M, and many others open fashion stores in many parts of the world with the mass market as their target. The main reason people wear these brands is because of the prestige attached to them and the strong sense of fashion that comes with wearing them, which moulds their identities.

Therefore, all employees are forced to change their individual identities when dressing. Involuntary conformity can also happen when a person lacks knowledge and thus seeks it from external (group) sources. In such a case, a person is unknowingly influenced by social dynamics and eventually changes behaviour as society dictates.

In an effort to feel fashionable, many people buy and wear not with respect to their personal identity but with respect to fashion.

The social and economic order that encourages the acquisition of fashion is focused on quantity (and unfashionable clothing) rather than quality. This has a negative impact on fashion wear that can not enhance people’s individual identities. On the other hand, it leads to the enhancement of social identity.

Genaral information about fashion

Fashion is a very vast field, it applies to apparel, clothing, accessories, footwear, cosmetics, makeup, hairstyle, lifestyle, body shapes and many more. Something that is form of self-expression and can be selected/chosen basis on individual’s interest or decision at a particular period or place in the context of clothing or apparel or lifestyle or footwear or look & appearance is called fashion. Globally, there is a set of people always prefers to adopt new trends and fashion, vis-à-vis, there is a set of people believes in being or using whatever comfortable for them, not bothered about fashion or trend. Fashion gets change periodically and basis on location or place, for example, Fashions of the 1990s in Europe or Fashions of the 2000s in US or Fashions of the 2010s of Asia etc, sometime, some fashion is being restricted into some timeframe/season in some country/countries, or, sometime, some fashion is forever globally. As this is a vast field and one article is not sufficient, in this article, I am sharing only general information!

Fashion facts in a industry

We've all had those moments, looking back at old photos and wondering, "What was I thinking?" Trends that were once the height of fashion can quickly become cringe-worthy memories. From leisure suits and layered tees to dresses over jeans and the all-denim look, our fashion choices often change as rapidly as the seasons.

What you might not know is that the fashion industry is the world's second-largest polluter, right behind the oil industry. Creating our favorite clothes consumes enormous amounts of energy, water, and resources, leading to significant waste. In fact, textiles account for 5% of landfill space in the U.S., with the average American discarding over 80 pounds of clothing annually. This constant cycle of trends not only drains our wallets but also takes a heavy toll on our planet.

As trends come and go, so do our wardrobes. On average, Americans dispose of about 81 pounds of clothing each year. While scoring a deal on a new sweater feels great, the true cost is far greater. Dive into the fashion waste filling our closets and landfills, and discover 30 surprising sustainable fashion facts that might just change the way you shop. Let’s make sustainable fashion the new evergreen trend.

Fast fashion

Fast fashion resulted from cheaper, speedier manufacturing and shipping methods, the consumer's appetite for up-to-the-minute styles, and increasing purchasing power, especially that of young people. Fast fashion challenges the established clothing labels' tradition of introducing new collections and lines on an orderly, seasonal basis.

Fashion & mental health

When you think about what makes up a healthy lifestyle, what comes to mind? You might be picturing green smoothies, yoga classes, and power walks. But I’ve learned that there are many more ways to positively impact our health, beyond diet and exercise alone.

Are your wardrobe choices pulling down your mood, making you feel (and maybe look) less than your best?  Or does your wardrobe lift your spirit? And did you know that there are clothing options that actually have woven-in health benefits?

I’m passionate about the link between fashion and health, and how women can empower themselves through their wardrobes. What we choose to wear can have big implications not only for our own health and well being, but also for the health of our communities and planet.

Don’t let ‘fast fashion’ fool you. Our clothes are not simple, throw-away items. They define us, and they can affect the way we live our lives.

Fashion distribution in india

Business always involves risk, especially in a market strongly controlled by powerful fashion houses and manufacturers at one end and fickle consumers at the other. Fashion designers have to take into consideration the global supply chains and the seasonality of clothing which often means that clothing must be bought months or a year in advance and credit, transportation and warehousing arranged on tight deadlines.

Economics impact of fashion industry

There are plenty of other jobs in the fashion industry as well! Not everyone know about the job of a fashion illustrator. A fashion illustrator works closely with fashion designers, meeting their requirements to create new product lines. This person creates conceptual sketches and illustrations of a fashion designer’s products. Free-hand sketching or computer software are possible alternatives.

Another job in the fashion industry that might not be as well known is the job of the fashion photographer. This professional works closely with fashion designers to see how the clothes they create look in pictures. This involves coming up with concepts for photoshoots. After creating it, the fashion photographer also has to set up equipment and lighting on set. A fashion photographer also directs models and chooses the best images or videos from the photoshoot. As a fashion photographer, you will most likely be working as a freelancer. Also, you might work either in a studio or from anywhere in the world.

Different cultures impact of fashion

Cultural appropriation is the adoption or use of elements of one culture by members of another culture, often without permission or understanding of the cultural significance. In the context of fashion, cultural appropriation involves taking cultural elements such as traditional dress, fabrics, or symbols and using them for aesthetic purposes without acknowledging their cultural significance or history.

Fashion design & technology

The fashion industry is associated with labor-intensive practices and the production of physical materials and goods. While fashion design engages with practical processes and tactile materials, the fashion industry is also a technological industry.

Technology continues to drive innovation and shape many aspects of fashion from streamlining supply chains to body-scanning technologies and online retailing with interactive virtual models. Fashion design has also been impacted by technology. Since the arrival of computer-aided design (CAD) in the 1980s, CAD has evolved to become an industry standard across the ready-to-wear fashion sector and continues to be used for drawing and rendering fashion ‘flats’ of garments and product lines.

Recent advances in design technologies are driving innovation and challenging traditional design models. As data has become a valuable commodity in the digital economy, artificial intelligence (AI) is driving new technological innovations in user-driven AI fashion design based on algorithms being pioneered by Google and Amazon. While the technology is still in development it is moving fashion design towards more personalized clothing and making digital sampling a reality.

AI has attracted the attention of some notable brands, including Tommy Hilfiger, who partnered with IBM and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York in 2018 to launch the label’s Reimagine Retail project aimed at better understanding customer preferences and purchasing trends by collecting algorithmic data to help make more informed design decisions. Technology is enabling greater personalization of designs and garments while data collection is predicting customer preferences.

Fashion & cultures fashion value

This section will explore the role of storytelling in fashion, and its significance in helping us to better understand the relationship between fashion, sustainability, and cultures.

Understanding fashion, sustainability, and cultures is about more than examining the multiple garments and traditions of fashion or acknowledging difference in styles across cultures globally. It is also about more than understanding where and how our clothes are made, by whom, for whom and why. Understanding fashion, sustainability, and cultures also requires us to factor in the meaning of fashion and the stories that are told about fashion. It is about recognising whose stories and histories are heard and recognised, and what happens when these stories are appropriated, replaced, or rewritten by the dominant industrial fashion system.

Inspire my fashion style '1950'

After World War II in the 1950s, fashion took on an air of rebellion. Cloth and clothing were available again, so fashion designers and customers were breathing a sigh of relief and rediscovering personal styles.

Between Dior gowns, poodle skirts, and saddle shoes, the clothing was unique. The hem lines had moved back up, and femininity was back to being popular after so many years of more serious clothing. In Europe, they had started to focus on ready-to-wear clothing and cocktail dresses, which were the new evening wear.

Colors were also brighter, and patterns were floral and feminine. The music during this time also had an influence over the clothing; since rock and roll required the ability to move, swing, and bounce around, the clothing had to allow this. Another odd fashion choice during this era was the cone-shaped bra, which was popular in Hollywood.

During the '60s and '70s, fashion changed drastically. Women wore pants, mini-skirts, bell-bottoms, and flowy clothing.

Fashion & glamorous look-2024

To delineate fashion is actually a difficult job, as it differs from person to person. For some, fashion may be a popular or latest style of clothing, accessory, decoration etc. I believe fashion is something which you can carry with ease and feel comfortable in whatever you are wearing. Fashion isn’t about divulging your body; you can equally look beautiful and fashionable in covered dresses. Fashion is something which comes from within. If you are happy and positive, it reflects on your face that adds charm to your personality. That’s how you are ready to hit the road in style and yes that is one of the ways to look fashionable.

Glamorous fashion beauty looks

The fashion industry is all about beauty, glamour and making a statement. Almost all the popular trends begin from here. People tend to invest a lot in designer clothes, accessories, shoes and whatnot, only to follow the latest trends. This is how obsessed people are with the fashion industry and fashionable lifestyles these days. Another aspect of the fashion industry that has become an integral part of everyone’s life Is makeup. Makeup is a powerful tool used by both men and women all around the world to enhance their looks and feel confident. Yes, you heard that right! Nowadays men also put on makeup to look more attractive and chic. Makeup can totally change the way you look and make you look more presentable. You wear an outfit with matching shoes and accessories but your look isn’t complete until and unless you choose a shade of lip colour and eye makeup that suits your clothing. Here are some reasons why makeup has become a necessity in the fashion industry:

Just your fashion choice

When it comes to runway shows, Hussein Chalayan’s autumn/winter 2000 collection remains a pivotal moment in melding both worlds. The Turkish fashion designer transformed four chair covers and a wooden coffee table into various dresses and a skirt. The show was inspired by refugees of war who were forced to flee their homes. The furniture and household items that seamlessly turned into dresses represented their worldly possessions that they had to carry on their backs. The collection also had a personal significance to Chalayan, given the designer’s Turkish Cypriot heritage and the conflict that occurred in that area during the late ’70s. As such an unorthodox and theatrical presentation was rarely seen at the time, the audience broke into rapturous applause following the stellar presentation.

The latest on style

Cars and clothing are two of the most revealing things about a person,” the Petersen’s curator, Leslie Kendall, noted during a recent press preview of the exhibition. “Especially in L.A., where cars are almost like another layer of clothing you wear when you go out into the world.”

Despite Southern California’s fascination with the automobile, the current exhibition, which runs through Jan. 23, has a starting line about 400 miles east, in Phoenix.

That’s where, in 2007, the curator of fashion design at the Phoenix Art Museum, Dennita Sewell, found herself opening an early iteration of the “Automotivated” exhibit, highlighting the influence of cars on the fashion world, but relying on illustrations instead of the actual cars. At the same time, the museum was mounting another car-themed exhibition called “Curves of Steel: Streamlined Automobile Design,” which just so happened to include a car borrowed from the Petersen’s collection.

Stylish & essential smartphone

The fashion industry has always been known to give loyalty points or rewards to keep customers interested with plastic membership cards. Now a mobile app can make it simple for customers, to keep a track of their points and update them with offers, and discounts the moment they walk into a physical store. Fashion brands are leveraging on mobile apps to increase the brand's presence among consumers, smartphones make this process faster and easier.

So what can apps do? Besides, the conventional buying and selling, fashion retail apps provide a bunch full of other features to keep their customers hooked. Many brands have introduced games, videos, and blogs to capture attention of users. Luxury apparel brands have also streamed live fashion shows, and some apps have an integrated GPS feature that enables users to track stores with latest offers. Another high street clothing brand launched a wireless point of sale system, which is touch enabled, that allows the whole system to act as remote credit card and barcode reader. The barcode gives information regarding the inventory and the credit card can be swiped to make payments.

Fashion for our future

2024 promises to be a vibrant tapestry woven with innovative threads in the fashion industry and its tech-savvy counterpart. From the ethical sourcing of materials to the personalised experiences powered by AI, several key developments are poised to reshape how we create, wear, and experience fashion. We all have opinions on what will ‘pop’ this year, and the crystal ball can get a little blurry. So, I’ve assembled a more comprehensive view of opinions from across the industry; grab your metaphorical needle and thread, and let's delve into what a cross-section of our industry believes are the top 10 trends that will define the sartorial landscape in the year ahead:

Fashion of Asia 2024

In addition to its environmental impacts, fast fashion tends to exploit the workers responsible for its production. Most clothing production is done in the Global South, including postcolonial countries in Africa, Asia, and , where laborers have few protections against long hours and unfair wages. Many work 16 hours every day, make very little money, and face retaliation for refusing to work overtime. Garment workers also labor in unsafe conditions, including windowless spaces, dangerously high temperatures, violent managers, and harmful chemical exposure. Perhaps the most famous event illustrating the poor conditions of garment workers was the Rana Plaza tragedy. In 2013 an eight-story building that housed several garment factories in Savar, collapsed and killed some 1,100 laborers and injured thousands more. Factory owners had ignored warnings not to use the building when cracks were discovered a day earlier. Because the supply chain is incredibly complex, retailers are mostly unfamiliar with the sourcing and production of their clothing and are therefore unaware of the conditions workers face to make their products.

Fantastic fashionable dressing style 2024

A way of dressing, styling, or behaving that is evolving and becoming visible. Something fashionable or popular during a particular timeframe, starting from separate key items and the combination of forms and colors to a general look and way of dressing.

Fashion is extremely visible in the way it evolves from designers' general ideas to the catwalks and in-store sales, which allows us to see the unbelievable power of trends within the industry. Theoretically, understanding the development of client desires is the crucial component of trend forecasting. In practice, one of the most important things is understanding where designers and key influencers will get their inspiration and how this inspiration will be translated into real products. If you are a designer, this will also help you understand your competitors.
